Bonjour à tous,
Orione — Paquebot de 4.016 t construit en 1883 par le chantier R. Napier & Sons, de Glasgow (Écosse), pour le compte de la Navigazione Generale Italiana (N.G.I.). Cédé en 1906 à la Società Marittima Italiana, établie à Palerme (Italie). (uboat.net ; The Ship List).
Endommagé en mer Adriatique, le 16 novembre 1917, par le sous-marin k.u.k. U-43 – ex-UB-43 – (Linenschiffleutnant Friedrich Schlosser) (uboat.net). Secouru par les destroyers australiens Huon, Parramatta, Warrego et Yarra. Remorqué jusqu’au port de Tarente par le Parramatta.
1. – « The destroyers HMAS Warrego and HMAS Parramatta steaming to the assistance of the Italian troopship Orione, which was torpedoed off Brindisi, Italy. The destroyers HMAS Yarra and HMAS Huon also contributed to this rescue of over 400 men. The Australian seamen and officers involved were warmly praised by the Italian Rear Admiral at Brindisi. »

2. – « The Italian troopship Orione after it was torpedoed by an enemy submarine. Note that the stern has been completely blown off. The 400 troops and wounded aboard her were picked up by the Australian destroyers HMAS Warrego, Huon and Parramatta ; the Parramatta and Yarra assisted in towing the ship in to port. The Orione returned to port after a eventful few days that included rough weather, separation from the escorting destroyers and an encounter with a mine. The Australian officers and seamen involved in the rescue were warmly praised by the Italian Rear Admiral, Alfredo Acton. »

3. – « Ionian Sea. 16 November 1917. The torpedoed stern of the Italian transport ship Orione as seen from TBD HMAS Parramatta. Several Allied ships in the area assisted in rescuing troops from the Orione including those thrown into the sea. Parramatta took Orione in tow and headed towards Brindisi until the arrival of a tug.
