Salut à toute la noble assemblée,

Est ce que quelqu'un peut me dire quand et sur quoi le capitaine (voire commandant) Julien Félix, un des premiers brevetés militaires, s'est tué ?

Il se serait planté à Etampes sur un appareil à stabilité automatique, qu'aurait essayé Frantz avant lui et dont il lui avait déconseillé le vol... Mais Félix était passionné de ce genre d'appareils et avait notamment piloté l'aile volante Dunne.

Il s'est tué avant guerre, mais quand ? Je ne trouve rien sur lui sur Gallica...

Comme souvent les documents anglais sont plus précis et détaillés que les docs français.

La revue aérienne nous indique dans son numéro de juillet 1914 la mort accidentelle du pilote ainsi que ses obséques qui ont été célébrées le samedi 20 juin à Paris. Il a été inhumé au cimetière de Bagneux. Il y a eu un discours prononçé par M Payret-Dortal du cercle d'Aviation et d'Aérostation dont le commandant félix était le président.

"Flight" nous indique: Accident à Chartres en essayant une machine d'un ingénieur polonais: "...the death of Major Felix, which occurred as the result of an accident at Chartres on Wednesday when testing a new machine designed by a Polish engineer. It will be recalled that Major Felix did some fine flying on the Dunne machine, including a trip from England to France."

Enfin "The Aeroplane" est le plus précis. je vous copie la source:
l'avion était un monoplan Drzewicki construit par Ratmanoff

On june 18th, commandant Felix was testing a Drzewicki monoplane, destined for the "concours de securité" at Buc when the machine got out of control and dived steeply to earth. The pilot was instantly killed. COmmandant Félix will be remembered for his fine flying on the Dunne. He was one on the first French military aviators, commanded the centre at Etampes and at one time held the world's record for altitude on a Blériot. The machine on which he was killed was a "canard" monoplane built by M. Ratmanoff to the designs of M. Drzewicki, the famous polish scientist, and it was intended to be inherently stable. Unfortunately, it was like very many scientific products in that it was based on insufficient premises. The longitudinal stability may have been all right, but, like the biplane on somewhat similar lines which was built by the Royal Aircraft Factory and ,killed Mr Theodore Ridge, the side area was wrong, a defect which should have been obvious to anyone who was not a theoretician".
