Bonjour,
As for the September 27, 1917 loss date for UC 21 given by Miramar, that is the postwar Royal Navy sinking attribution for UC 21. It is clearly wrong.
The British had (incorrectly) decided that UC 6 was sunk in an air attack but then needed to explain submarine wreckage found at 51°30’N, 1°35’E off the Kentish Knock Light Vessel. The wreck was linked (also incorrectly) to explosions noted on September 27, 1917 soon after a new mine net was laid. For reasons that aren’t obvious, the Royal Navy decided that the explosions and wreckage were from UC 21.
In actuality, the U-boat wreckage the RN found in a mine net off the Kentish Knock Light Vessel was from UC 6. The main portion of the wreck, which the Royal Navy didn't find during the war, was located by a diver about 12 years ago.
Best wishes,
Michael
