Biaches, January - March 1917

Message par MicahDominicParsons »

Hello everyone,

For the past few years, I have been researching the events around Biaches and La Maisonette between January and March 1917. I have a desire to lean more about the co-operation that took place between the French and British when The 48th Sound Midlands Divison took over the area from the French in February 1917.

On Sunday 4th February 1917, The German 1st Prussian Guards launched a raid called Operation Griftpille and discovered that they were facing British troops and not French troops. The French artillery fired in support of The 48th South Midland Division supporting especially The 1/6th Battalion, The Royal Warwickshire Regiment. If the French gunners had not been there that day then casualties would have been much higher.

I was wondering if anything had been recovered from this area which demonstate the above events or show that British troops were in the area?

I was wondering if anyone had any information about Bois Desire or Kiboko Wood and the cemetery that was in the copse next to the wood and I was wondering if anyone had any information relating to The Chasseur, Stetin or Buda Trench?

My Great Grandfather Henry Nichols was killed in action on Sunday 11th March 1917 and was buried facing La Maisonette and I was wondering if anyone would be able to locate the exact spot where he was buried and perhaps provide an explanation as to why he may have been buried there. Any information no matter how small would be really useful to me.

I would give anything to connect with this area in the same way that my Great Grandfather did and I would give anything to learn more of the little details of this area following the war including anything that may have been found or even recovered archaeologically.

Best Wishes,

Micah Dominic Parsons
